Psychiatry works best when there is time — time to listen, time to think, and time to get it right. At North Star Psychiatry, I work with a small number of patients by design. No rushing through a 15-minute appointment. No waiting months for a follow-up. Just careful, unhurried care from a physician who knows you well and is invested in where you are going.
North Star Psychiatry was born out of a conviction that patients deserve better than the standard model of care. After training at some of the country's leading institutions and working across settings from academic medicine to community psychiatry, I built this practice to do things differently — fewer patients, deeper relationships, and the space to actually think.
The name is intentional. A north star does not move. It orients. That is what I try to be for the people I work with.
MY APPROACH
Dr. Thein a dual board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in Tribeca, NYC, well-versed in comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and integrating medication management and therapy.
Dr. Thein received his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, graduating with distinction. He completed his general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at UC Davis Medical Center, where he developed specialized expertise in the emotional and developmental needs of young people and their families.
He is currently a candidate at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research — one of the most rigorous psychoanalytic training programs in the country. He previously completed a two-year psychodynamic psychotherapy training at the San Francisco Center for Psychotherapy.
